THE SEVEN HABITS OF FIT AND HEALTHY PEOPLE

- FOR MANAGERS -

We're moving in desperate times.

The last organisations standing will be those with enthusiastic staff united in a common purpose.

The last people standing will be the fit and healthy.

In Stephen Covey's terms it's time to sharpen the axe. NOW!

The one day Seven Habits Program for Managers program is designed to provide managers with

the rationale for their organisation's involvement in a systematic occupational health, fitness and wellbeing program.

a taste of what the one day Seven habits program is all about - in a way that impacts on their own health, fitness and wellbeing

encouragement to build on the moment generated by the one day programs their staff will be involved in.

1.  The managers program starts with the Best Practice in Occupational Health, Fitness and Wellbeing presentation.

It highlights key objectives like;

reducing the costs of absenteeism, presenteeism, workers compensation and employee retention

establishing an aim for the program, like

'Our aim is to have the fittest and healthiest staff, with the highest morale and career satisfaction of any comparable organisation in the world.'

getting used to setting OHF&W benchmarks and targets.

Managers will view some case study reports of organisations in various states of health.

2.  Managers are then introduced to the individual segments of the Seven Habits program

    Keep yourself aerobically fit

    Keep yourself strong

    Keep yourself flexible

Eat from the top of the Hourglass

Manage the stress of your life

Manage the stress of your job

    Meditate

They'll come away with an exceptionally good idea of what the program is all about, and their own level of health, fitness and wellbeing.

3.  Morale booster

The session concludes with a morale-boosting segment based on the Healthy People - Healthy Workplace concept.

It's based on three questions addressed by groups of 5 or 6 participants:

1.  What do 'they' need to do to improve morale (whoever 'they' is.)

2.  What do we need to do to improve morale?

3.  What do I need to do to improve morale?

It's a useful exercise with people being honest about that they see needing to be done to boost morale. There are not many people who want to work in a place where morale is low, plus there are not many people who don't have some idea of what needs to be done to improve it.

4.  Audit report

During the session participants complete a number of profiles which are then turned into an audit report and fed back to participants and their manager. Here is the link to some audit reports.

5.  Recommendations

The audit report comes with recommendations about what needs to be done to improve employee health, fitness and wellbeing.

At the conclusion of the program participants will have a good idea of the nature and scope of the Seven Habits of Fit and Health People program, it's likely impact on their staff and, most importantly what they need to do to maintain the momentum generated by the day.

The great tragedy of many corporate wellness programs is that individual managers are not given the key performance indicators to drive improvement. People are gee-ed up, measurements are taken, reports written then everyone falls back into a coma until next year when they do something else.

It follows the predictable pattern of the Six Phases of  a Project:

1.  Enthusiasm

2.  Disillusionment

3.  Panic

4.  Search for the guilty

5.  Punishment of the innocent

6.  Praise and honours for the non-participants

This session for managers aims to break that cycle and have them embrace the concept of occupational health, fitness and wellbeing for the long term benefit of their organisation.

It's a big ask expecting to stay healthy without keeping yourself fit.

It's an even bigger ask expecting to get better by having someone do something to you; sooner or later you have to do something to yourself.
