Results AD June 2006

John Miller conducted Health Assessments for The Organisation in June 2006.

Participants completed the Career Satisfaction profile

The results are presented in graphic format, with commentary.

CAREER SATISFACTION

The parameters in the profile relate to a mix of factors influenced by the participant, management and their colleagues.

•      How close are you to doing the job you’d really like to be doing?

•      Are you in the right job for now?

•      Is work giving you life or sucking life out of you?

•      Are you focused on your career options?

•      Do you get good feedback from your manager?

•      Do you receive an appropriate financial reward?

•      Do you feel you and your work are valued and appreciated?

•      Do you work for an organisation that cares about people?

•      Do you enjoy the company of the people you work with?

•      What’s the level of morale like in your work group?

Normally, when results on the overall career profile are less than 70/100, people agree that they’re not in the right job. Certainly those scoring less than 60 have sufficient issues relating to career management as to seriously consider making a job or career change.

What's striking about this set of numbers is that for the first time in a long time everyone got over 70/100.

It's an outstanding performance. It's one of the best we've seen. Admittedly the sample was quite small so it might not reflect the office as a whole, but nevertheless it's a refreshing set of numbers.

A few people were a long way away from their ideal job. 2 people didn't even know what they wanted to do (when they grew up!) It would be good to implement a career development program that assisted people work out what they really want to do and then assist them to get there. It would be a great place to work in that did that.

Current job satisfaction was very, very good. There's must be something in the water up there in this office that is distinctly different than what's in the water in other offices of this organisation around the country. I see evidence of good management.

People were not stressed by their jobs. And neither they should they.

These people are focused on what they want to do.

It is usually the case that the question on the feedback is the worst answered question in the book. This result goes directly counter to those trends. It's an excellent result.

It's evidence of good management, but up and down.

These people think they're being paid well. Perception is what counts.

These people think their work is valued and appreciated. This is a good result. Managers are doing something right.

This is another pretty good result. Give managers a pat on the head and a bag of lollies!

These people enjoy the company of their work colleagues. It's a happy office.

Morale was exceptionally high. It's usually the case that 'our' morale is high when 'my' morale is high.

This is a pleasing result. Good management. Good location. Terrific view. Good salaries. High morale. Where do I apply?

This is a very good set of numbers from a group that appears to be focused on getting the most out of their careers.
